Jaclyn Cosmetics, named for YouTube influencer Jaclyn Hill, and its parent company Forma Brands, have announced that the business will be closing “in order for both parties to pursue new and exciting adventures.”

Jaclyn Cosmetics will officially close January 31, 2024. The brand says purchases can be made up until that date while supplies last.

About Jaclyn Cosmetics

The cruelty-free cosmetics line originally launched in May 2019 with glistening packaging, but was soon met with complaints from consumers—some of whom reported hairy lipstick among other quality issues. The issues were allegedly addressed by the brand.

“I have decided to close the doors on Jaclyn Cosmetics for the foreseeable future,” Jaclyn said in a statement on Instagram. “There has been plenty of talk, but what I will say is the brand has been such an important chapter in my book and one I will always cherish but am ready to close.”

Meanwhile, Forma Brands had a turbulent year. In January 2023, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

It completed the sale of all of its assets to an investor group for $690 million and thereby emerged from the restructuring process with a new CEO in March of 2023.

Sources attribute the company’s bankruptcy to the pandemic, which caused a two-year slide in color cosmetics sales, supply chain issues, as well as controversy surrounding celebrity brands from Jeffree Star and James Charles.
